TransCore’s Infinity Digital Lane System to Deliver Next Generation Technology to over 300 Toll Lanes in Central Florida

NASHVILLE, Tenn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–TransCore was recently awarded an $85 million project to design, install and maintain a new, innovative electronic toll collection system for over 300 toll lanes of the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX). The multi-phased toll system upgrade is slated to be completed in 2018 with minimal impact to the traveling public. It is expected to improve the accuracy and reliability of the system used to collect and manage toll transactions that occur at 86 toll plazas and along 109 miles of expressways throughout the metro-Orlando area.

CFX’s system, developed and installed by TransCore in the early 1990s, is one of the first modern electronic toll collection systems in the U.S. TransCore will upgrade this system with the nation’s leading Infinity Digital Lane System. Unlike other tolling systems, Infinity consists of independent modules that can be easily replaced, upgraded or removed in the field without affecting lane operations. This feature significantly reduces long-term maintenance costs.

The toll collection system upgrade is part of CFX’s ongoing initiative to improve its entire transportation management system.

As part of the technology upgrade, TransCore will integrate its advanced vehicle classification and identification systems combined with a digital video audit module to enhance the system’s precision and auditability.

TransCore will also establish a Maintenance Monitoring Center that tracks system performance in real time, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This online maintenance and inventory control system has the ability to monitor, respond to and prevent equipment issues before they occur.

“More than 200 of our employees live and work in Central Florida, so we understand and appreciate the benefits this project will bring to the region. We fully support the Central Florida Expressway Authority’s goals to provide a system that can easily adapt to the growing needs of one of the country’s most popular destinations,” said Jim Wilson, senior vice president and project principal.
