11 Nov Missouri Department of Transportation Selects TransCore to Provide St. Louis’ New Traffic Management System Powered by TransSuite
HARRISBURG, Pa.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) awards TransCore a $3.3 million contract to replace their existing traffic management software system and integrate TransCore’s state-of-the-art TransSuite® traffic management software into the Gateway Guide program, a system designed to relieve congestion and improve safety in the St. Louis area, the state’s largest city and the 16th-largest urban area in the country. The system cutover will be complete by April 2012.
MoDOT’s Gateway Guide program works around the clock and is made up of many state-of-the-art devices to manage the region’s transportation network more effectively. The program utilizes real-time traffic information to reduce traffic delays caused by incidents, work zones and the growing demand on the cities road network. Gateway Guide also provides drivers information in several formats, primarily by web, telephone or variable message signs. The video images are also shared with local media as a courtesy for use during traffic reports.
MoDOT wanted a system that was more flexible yet diverse enough to meet its requirements and support an expansive program. With an existing TransSuite deployment in Kansas City, MoDOT looked to TransCore to bring its products to bear in their largest urban area. A detailed transition plan will provide a seamless transfer to the TransSuite system and minimize service disruptions. - ATMS Map / ATMS Explorer – Map is a dynamic GIS based graphical interface that ties all other modules together. Context sensitive functionality (hover-over and right-click menus) provide operators quick access to information for system devices and links to the full functionality of all modules, and administrators access to system and device configuration tools.
- Video Control System (VCS) manages all video systems including CCTV control, video display, and video wall management.
- Event Manager (EM) provides incident, construction, or planned event tracking, response, and reporting functionality.
- Freeway Management System (FMS) gathers, processes, and displays data from roadway vehicle detection devices. TransSuite’s FMS is used to define and manage travel time routes data display, incident detection algorithms, Ramp Metering monitoring and control, and automated queue message generation.
- Traveler Information System (TIS) allows management and control of permanent and portable Dynamic Message Signs, Highway Advisory Radios, blank-out signs, and developing interfaces for other devices such as Lane Control and Variable Speed Limit signs.
