HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–TransCore has been named a finalist in three 2010 Best of ITS Award categories. Presented by ITS America, the Best of ITS Awards honor the most innovative, effective, and influential achievements in the Intelligent Transportation System industry. This highly competitive program recognizes the organizations whose projects have demonstrated specific and measurable outcomes and exemplified innovation by establishing a “new dimension” of performance.

Best New Innovative Product – Research and Innovation – Private Sector:
- National Toll Interoperability – IAG Plug and Play Reader System Project.
The radio frequency identification (RFID)-based IAG Plug and Play reader system, through its ability to recognize multiple wireless communication protocols, created a technological foundation for national interoperability of disparate toll systems.
Best New Innovative Practice – Partnership Deployment – Private Sector:
- The Southern Connector and TransCore Partnership: With the installation of TransCore’s IAG Plug and Play Reader System, the Southern Connector now has the ability to read any toll related tag in North America. The Southern Connector has proved that national toll interoperability is technically capable. Organizations can use this model as a proven method to move toward national toll interoperability.
Best New Innovative Practice – Sustainability in Transportation – Private Sector:
- The RFID-based “Green Tag” Windshield Sticker: The battery free, or green tags, provide long-term benefits by reducing an agencies overall operations costs by lowering mailing and transportation costs, lowering facility storage and space requirements, and eliminating hazardous material related costs due to the battery-free design.
All award finalists will be honored at a special reception during ITS America’s 20th Annual Meeting on Monday evening, May 3, 2010. TransCore entries will be highlighted in a special presentation.
