Modern airport ground transportation is currently undergoing rapid change because of burgeoning air travel demand. New ground transportation business models have been introduced into the marketplace led by Transportation Network Companies (TNCs). Technology and communication advancements have enabled the development of management approaches such as virtual taxi queuing systems that reduce operator’s waiting times in holding lots. Expanded parking facilities and the redesign of many airport terminal facilities have challenged airport ground transportation managers to re-think approaches to managing curb capacity.
